On yet another blistering August day in B’ham, it is hard for us to believe that Fall will ever come, but as fashion devotees, we want to be ready when it finally does show up! So we are happy to share the fall trends and must-have items from Belk which were presented by Arlene Goldstein, their Vice President of Trend Merchandising and Fashion Direction at the Summit this summer.
We were there to get the scoop, so here you go! The overall theme is “Polished” and the trends are:
My Fair Lady – Feminine, ladylike, put together, elegant, and luxurious. Details include peplums, ruching, wrapping, and an emphasis on the waist. Look for longer hemlines, feminine dresses, pencil skirts, pretty blouses and fabrics such as satin, lace, lamé, and sequins for day. In accessories, go with statement pendants, long chains, bold cuffs, single soled pumps, ankle boots, and fedoras.
Town and Country – Classics with an attitude. Details include a lot of texture, fur accents, quilting, toggle closures, and oversized pockets. Look for great sportswear styles in tweeds, chunky knits, denim, leather, and flannel with mixes of dressy and casual fabrics. Patterns are huge with unexpected pairings such as tartan with English florals. In accessories, think riding boots, chunky knit caps, skinny belts, and bold gold jewelry.
Mod Modern – Embracing the 1960s in shape and tailoring. Details include color blocking, banding, structured shapes, and sleek lines. Look for shifts, slim pants, structured knits, and graphic patterns – checks, bold plaids, dots, and snake. In accessories, add metal geometric-shaped collars, dramatic cuffs, envelope clutches, and platform pumps.
Vivid – Maximum, high wattage fall color. Details include color blocking and banding, shiny finishes, bold florals and stripes, snake prints, and head-to-toe color. Look for unexpected color pairings, fresh looks with jewel tones, or a bold color paired back to a neutral. In accessories, go with fur trimmed pieces, bold jewelry, and opaque hosiery all in a range of bright hues.
