Dirty Little Secret

According to the University of Northwest Ohio, it takes the average woman 38 minutes to get ready with 11 of those minutes dedicated to hair care.  We are certain that if this research were done exclusively in the South, it would be considerably longer!  We learned from our mothers not to leave the house unless we are looking our best because “you just never know who you’ll run into!” So we are always on the lookout for great products that help save us time, especially when it comes to our crowning glory.  Enter dry shampoos (aerosol powders), which have been around for years, but are actually quite in right now (even though no one wants to admit it).  Whether you are catching up on some beauty sleep or don’t have enough time to shower in between the gym and dinner, just spray your favorite dry shampoo in your hair, wait one minute, brush out, and wha la!

A couple of our favorites include one from New York stylist Oscar Blandi called Pronto Invisible Volumizing Dry Shampoo Spray which goes on clear and boosts hair volume ($25 for 5 oz.) and Bumble and Bumble’s tinted version Blondish Hair Powder ($32 for 6.8 oz.) designed especially for darker blondes and lighter brunettes, both available at Sephora. Or you can head to the drugstore for Pssssst!, one of the original dry shampoos  ($7 for 5.3 oz.), TRESemme’s Freshstart Dry Shampoo  ($5.30 for 5.7 oz.) or the great smelling Dove’s Invigorating Dry Shampoo ($4.50 for 5 oz.). Want a few tips on using dry shampoo? Check out ours below, but don’t worry, we will keep this our dirty little secret.

Tips:

  • Don’t spray too much at once, spray a little on your roots, brush in or shake with your fingertips and add accordingly.
  • Long flight? Carry on Oscar Blandi’s, Pssssst!’s or TRESemme’s travel size versions in your bag and feel fresh and ready to go after visiting your flight’s lady’s room before you land.
  • Spray dry shampoo in your hair before you go to bed if you have a busy morning. Just wake up, brush, and go!
